Takako Arai is a leading indies poet, who won the Oguma Hideo Prize for her collection Tamashii dansu. Her work has been translated by Jeffrey Angles, who recently received the Donald Keene Center’s Japan-U.S. Friendship Commission Prize for the Translation of Japanese Literature. The two will discuss the secrets of this book, which was reviewed so favorably by The Japan Times, and will engage in a “dance of voices,” reading their work in both Japanese and English. The two will talk about writing and the Japanese language in their capacities as Japanese language teachers and literature scholars, and as authors and translators. What great secrets might emerge?
